Meet Jeff Wright
Zerion’s product is its people. Since it’s rare that our friends and clients get to meet all of the outstanding professionals that make up our company, this month we’d like you to introduce you to Jeff.

Residence: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Hometown: Rocky Mount & Ocracoke Island, North Carolina
Position with Zerion: Consultant

What did you do before joining Zerion?
For many years I was a Systems Administrator, Branch Manager and Purchasing Agent for a wholesale plumbing distributor that was on the Eclipse system. After that I was a Network Engineer for IBM, Nortel Networks and Interpath Communications where I installed and managed large wide area networks for Fortune 500 companies.

What is your specialty at Zerion?
Installations from scratch. I've done a lot of them and I enjoy the challenge of seeing a server in a box on the warehouse floor and turning it into a finely tuned system that handles every aspect of a company.

What is the best location you’ve traveled to for your job?
Any place in California. The whole state is amazing. I find the weather perfect and the scenery breath-taking, from the mountains to the sea.

If there was one place you could visit in the world, where would it be?
I have traveled quite a lot for pleasure and for my job with Zerion; however, Germany and Switzerland have eluded me thus far. I’m fascinated by the culture and the beauty.

What is your favorite “customer success” story?
My favorite install and success has to be one in my home state of North Carolina. We took a branch from being on virtually no system at all to a fully functional ERP solution that controlled everything about their business. It took a lot of late nights and hard work, but we got it done and they are better off now than ever before.

How do you spend most of your time when you’re not working?
I like to spend time at home with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and seeing new sights for pleasure when I have time and the means to do so.

What is a little known, interesting fact about you?
I'm an Instrument-rated Private Pilot and avid semi-professional photographer.

Favorite book or movie and why:
I like any book by Dan Brown for action/drama or David Sedaris for comedy/novels. I also love Sci-fi movies and Contact has to be one of my all-time favorites.

In one sentence, describe your philosophy on life and work:
Do what you say you will do and own it.

From the desk of Brad RileyGetting the most out of your software is important. In fact, it’s a common response when we ask clients why they want Zerion’s help. If you’re not in the mindset of using the system for all it's worth, you might as well be throwing money out the window, right? Well if you’re an Activant Eclipse user, rookie or veteran, the Eclipse Users Group/UFO (User Friendly Organization) is a smart way to get everything you can out of Eclipse. The UFO is an association of over 400 Eclipse users that is independent of Activant Eclipse. It’s a great outlet for networking, a reliable resource for information and education, and an opportunity to share best practices.

We’ve been fortunate to meet many of the users that are part of this organization and witness the dedication of the group’s organizers, thanks to some recent training engagements. Users around the country are consistently provided with cost-effective supplementary training to improve their company’s performance on the system. Zerion has been part of just a few of these, but we’ve been able to see users leave with a new idea, solution to a problem, or enhanced knowledge, typically after just one day. In addition, the pooled resources and group knowledge offered by the users group, be it with an exchange of questions and answers in the online forum, through relationships formed with other users, or with a united front to solve a system issue, can be an incredibly valuable asset for your businesses’ daily operations.

If you haven’t joined, I encourage you to do so. If you are a member, I hope you take advantage of the resources available. There simply isn’t a better or easier way out there to make the most of your investment.

Did you know that in Eterm you can freeze part of your report on-screen while you scroll others?

This month’s tip is on the Set View Parameter screen in Eclipse Eterm. To access this screen, use the Format hotkey at the bottom of any report. It will allow you to freeze part of your report on the screen while you scroll to other parts of the report.  You do this by defining the number of rows and columns that you want to freeze.  For example, if you want to freeze the first 30 rows, then you would set the ending column to be 30. Likewise if you want to freeze a row, you enter the number of rows you want to freeze.  Often times this is used to freeze an order number or a customer name as you scroll to the additional information.
